The flap controller can work with any actuator that draws less than 7 amps current at 12 volts when operating. It requires that the system have a 5K or 10K resistive position sensor that provides feedback of flap position. Many actuators incorporate this type of sensor in the unit, or separate linear resistive sensors are available from equipment suppliers. Weighing only 3 oz, easy to read, and fully automatic, the “E” Flap Controller removes the guesswork and distraction of manually positioning flaps during the busy approach and departure phases of flight. Self contained and only 3 ½ inch long, it can be mounted either horizontally or vertically.
Each of the 4 preset positions can be easily programmed to match any flap setting. The microprocessor based device incorporates a calibration sequence that allows the operator to manually drive the flaps to any position, then with a few button strokes, record this position in memory. All 4 positions can be recorded this way. On power up, the unit performs a self test of the lights. One light will then illuminate indicating flap position. Momentarily pushing any switch will first turn the illuminated light off, then drive the flaps to the selected position. When the system senses that the flaps are in the correct position, the actuator stops, and the new light illuminates.
The controller incorporates an interface to the optional Aircraft Components P/N 2070 or P/N 2080 gear position warning system eliminating the need for the manual flap position switch otherwise needed.
