Q+A:

Is there supposed to be a gap between the pitot tube and protector when it's closed?
Yes, that is part of normal operation. When its closed the gap will be small like the first image on this page. Then, when you are in motion and the wind hits the circular part near the hinge, it opens so the pitot system will operate (second image shows open). The opening and closing of the device happens inside of the nut area of the protector, not by the hinged part contacting the opening. It is difficult to explain but makes sense once you use the device.

Is P/N 10-02000 the pitot protector made of stainless steel?
